It’s 25 days before Christmas! Especially here in the Philippines, shopping malls and fast-food chains are relentlessly playing Christmas songs once the – Ber months started.
11-11 shopping day has passed but there’s still Black Friday and the 12.12 shopping day. You can take advantage of these sales to buy gifts for the important men in your life while avoiding the holiday traffic in the metro.
Of course, men would always love to have a brand-new Honda Civic or Suzuki Jimny, his dream DLSR camera, and a custom-made suit for Christmas. However, we are not all multi-millionaires so we have to be creative in choosing the best gifts within our limited budget.
Last Christmas, I bought a limited edition Lamy Safari fountain pen, followed by a Pilot Cocoon and a few samples of inks from friends. I got hooked and started writing on fountain pens 80% of the time. Since I missed the first-ever Manila Pen Show, I told myself that I have to attend my first ever Pen Show after getting “pen-abled.”
The Manila Pen Show held its 2nd show from November 16 to 17 at the Holiday Inn Makati. This two-day event was participated by established manufacturers and retailers and up-and-coming artisans from the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. It was an intimate yet jam-packed affair where both new and experienced fountain pen enthusiasts gathered, socialized, and purchased their haul. Entrance is pegged at PHP200.
Seiko 5 is the budget line of Seiko watches. Despite its affordability, Seiko 5 is well-known for its reliability which has been well-loved by both new and experienced watch enthusiasts for many years.
Since I have a limited budget and unable to carry a Swiss-made automatic watches to avoid street criminals such as holdapers (they rob you at either knife or gunpoint) and mandurokot (pickpockets), I started to look for a pair of a Japanese automatic watch with not more than $250 (at least P13,000 as of August 2018) in value, a bezel not more than 40mm in diameter, and preferably with 20mm lug width.
I’ve been blogging on and off for the past 15 years. Now that I’m getting more serious, it’s time to learn the technical side of blogging. So, I decided to join and attend the Manila WordPress Meetup, a monthly talk held by a group of local WordPress developers last September 7, 2019.
It was a fun-filled five-hour event brought to us by the event sponsor Recruitday.com where fellow and aspiring bloggers listened to the speakers, mingled, get inspired, and my favorite part, enjoy free caffè latte.
It’s monsoon season again here in Manila! Yet many of us here are training hard for our respective races by the end of the year.
Despite the inclement weather, we are still more than happy to run on wet roads than to get bored running on treadmills. As a result, our running shoes get drenched in rainwater and become stinky the next morning.
Our running shoes need TLC such as regular cleaning especially if we are short in budget and have only one pair.
I have been a New Balance customer for ten years. It all started from the discounted pair I bought when I started running, which was a funky gold pair of New Balance 749. I tried a couple of direct competitors in between but I had to size up to fit my overpronating duck-wide feet. Those pairs didn’t last either. So, I kept on coming back to New Balance and never looked back.

I have a confession to all of you: Despite that, I call myself The Dapper Runner even if I don’t even own a single suit. I don’t have a plan of getting one at this time.
Yes, that is right!
The main reason for not owning a suit is the hot and humid weather in Metro Manila. I can’t stand wearing layers and layers of clothing on my daily commute simply because I sweat profusely even during the cool northeast breeze of January. I just bring an extra shirt in my bag instead. Also, I don’t attend parties and formal events.
On Christmas of 2016, I badly needed a lightweight stability running shoes to replace my failing pair of 870v4. So, I bought a black and pink pair of New Balance Vazee Prism at New Balance Bonifacio High Street boutique with a 40% discount but, it took me a few months before I started wearing it.
THE CHICAGO MARATHON, which celebrated its 40th Anniversary, is one of the six prestigious World Major Marathons. Many recreational runners, including yours truly, had the impression that only elite international athletes can join because of the qualification time, unless if we have huge money to donate to their charity partners for us to join the race.
I understand that many Filipino runners are quite hesitant to join because it’s too expensive. My advice to all my fellow recreational runners who also have the zest of traveling: WHY DON’T YOU GUYS GIVE IT A SHOT? Join the lottery a year before the marathon and let’s see how it goes if we get picked or not.
The last time joined a 10k race was at the Adidas King of the Road on July 7, 2013. I achieved a personal record of 57 minutes. I thought that my PR will never be broken because of age and the fear of injuring my left knee again. After finishing two marathons from 2015 to 2016, I decided to join a race where I test my speed for the first time after four long years.
Last February, I signed up at Pinoy Fitness Sub1 10K Run which was held on March 26 as a birthday gift for myself. For the benefit of those new to the running community, Sub1 10K Run is NOT A FUN RUN!
